Brìghde Chaimbeul (Breech-huh Campbell) is a Scottish composer, master of the smallpipes, and leading purveyor of celtic experimentalism. Chaimbeul’s music is at once rooted in her native Gaelic language and folklore, while unfurling towards ambient, avant garde and electronic resonances. Through a constancy of sound—at times evoking a chant—Chaimbeul casts a trance-like atmosphere, inviting transportive, whole-body listening.

Her recent self-produced album, Sunwise (2025) “is a revelatory album, steeped in landscape, ritual, minimalism and the eternal presence of the drone.”

This LP marks for Chaimbeul an important push towards the experimental, all the while recalling the Celtic folkloric myth of the Cailleach, the bringer of winter. To follow this album is to fall into the embrace of wintertime, the growing darkness, the pull to turn inward; while also, ”gathering for the ceilidh: songs and stories told round the fire; where the boundaries between reality and imagination blur.”
